Chinese and other Characters
As I live in China at the moment, I had the idea of a new map type: Chinese Calligraphy. OK, my talent to calligraphy is somewhat limited, so I hope that people who can read chinese recognize the letters :-) The name of each map is the chinese 'pin yin' spelling with tones. After that follows the english translation. I made a lot of country names as character maps. If you feel I missed some country, email me :-) How do chinese
generate a countries name? They try to find some word which pronounces
somewhat similar (in that countries native language) and with a flattery
meaning. Most country names are then followed by the word for country. If
that does not work, then they try to imitate the pronounciation completly. |
